In a major announcement yesterday, the College Board published a press release about their plans for a new, digital SAT that will be implemented starting with the 2023 school year (Internationally) and in 2024 domestically. This means that current freshmen and future classes will be affected.
College Board has already run pilot testing, and reported very positive feedback. “The digital SAT will be easier to take, easier to give, and more relevant,” according to Priscilla Rodriguez, vice president of College Readiness Assessments at College Board. A computer-based, adaptive test, the new SAT will still be administered at test centers, though students may bring their own laptops or devices. Made up of two main sections, the overall testing time will be cut from three hours to two, and taking it electronically will allow for scores to be sent back in a matter of days. The new testing format may also allow for more testing dates through SAT School Days or potentially other Official Test Dates.
