The speed with which generative AI has infiltrated schools has left teachers and administrators with whiplash, but colleges are getting wise to some of the unsavory uses of ChatGPT.

The Wall Street Journal reports that handwritten "Blue Books" for testing are coming back into vogue because of widespread cheating through ChatGPT and other AI tools. Students who rely on generative AI may be completing assignments, but they are not learning and it will be exposed eventually, either on a final exam or a job interview.

Academic integrity is no laughing matter. Students who use generative AI to get through school are only shooting themselves in the foot once they reach college. And getting caught for plagiarism or using AI inappropriately on your college application may have dire consequences, leaving a permanent mark on your record. Please think carefully before employing such tools.
