Academics is job one.
Before we start worrying about sports to play or clubs to start, we need to establish a strong academic foundation. After all, you are primarily going to college to learn and prepare for your future. We want to set you up for academic success at the right level for you; never mind that kid who is taking every AP course available, or your friend who is coasting in Regulars English. Your courses should reflect your unique talents and abilities, preparing you for your individual road ahead.
Do what you have to do.
From course requirements to standardized testing, there are a lot of criteria you'll need to meet before you fill out that college application. We'll help you determine what to do and when, so that you can maximize your advantage and won't miss any critical deadlines.
Focus on what is meaningful and rewarding.
Do you know what your "hooks" are? All of our clients do so many things, but we've come to realize the importance of laser-like focus. Just as a laser can only be pointed in one direction at a time, we encourage our students to put their all into each carefully-selected activity, one at a time. Don't volunteer at the local homeless shelter if your heart isn't in it, but DO spend time with those whom you can help and from whom you can learn. Don't care about STEM? Can't handle History? We'll help you find organizations and programs you can put your whole self behind, even over the summer.
Live a little.
Being a student means you have one most precious resource—time. You should make the most of each day, do a lot, and not waste time. Yet having an incomparable resume won't mean much if you are too exhausted and burnt out to enjoy life. Because we get to know each student we can advise them on what to keep and what to cut, and we have lots of suggestions for new things to try and new places to go so that your time will be well spent.
